Conservation

Love the natural world and want to protect it, both locally and nationally? Join us!

Village Garden Club actively supports conservation efforts, works to learn about the environment, and shares this knowledge through projects and experiences with our members and with our community.

Our members take part in workshops and enjoy engaging speakers on Biophilic cities, stream-bank restoration, protection of pollinators, and waste reduction.

We turn education into action through “weed wrangling” efforts, habitat restoration, trail development, pollinator-friendly planting, and recycling.

We team up with and support local conservation organizations like Fern Hollow Nature Center, Pittsburgh Botanic Garden, Allegheny Land Trust, Wild Bird Recovery and Little Sewickley Creek Watershed Association to preserve native habitats and further education.

Read a sample meeting report below to learn in more detail what we do!

Spotted Lanternfly

You can help stop this destruction. The spotted lanternfly is an invasive insect that damages maple trees, black walnut, birch, willow and other trees by feeding on their sap. The insect is currently found in many Pennsylvania counties. Report a sighting.

Weed Wrangle in Sewickley, Pennsylvania
Stream bank restoration ensures healthy water for generations.

We call Sewickley, Pittsburgh, and Western Pennsylvania home, but we treasure the chance to engage nationally. As members of the national Garden Club of America we enjoy programs and activities, including educational workshops and conferences, legislative action, and national projects. See GCA’s National Affairs & Legislation for more information.

Village Garden Club joined a nationwide celebration of Frederick Law Olmsted’s work and legacy through our “Parks for People” yearlong celebration.
